Top 20 Best Selling Cars In Canada January 2015

The Hyundai Elantra began 2015 as Canadas best-selling car. January 2015 Elantra jumped 15% to a record-high for the compact Hyundai lineup.

The Elantra was Canadas second-best-selling car in the 2014 calendar year, the fourth consecutive year in which the Elantra finished second to the Honda Civic.

Civic volume slid 31% last month, and the Civic slid to third spot in the passenger car standings.

Januarys results, however, mean very little in the grand scheme of things. At no other point on the calendar will Canadians buy cars in such small numbers. Thus, not only does the Civic have eleven months to overcome the deficit, it has 11 higher-volume months in which to act. The Civic has been Canadas best-selling car in each of the last 17 years.

The Toyota Camry led all midsize cars in Canada in January 2015. The Camry lest led on an annual basis in 2012. The Honda Fit, with triple the January volume in 2015 than in 2014, led all subcompacts. The only premium brand car to crack the top 20 in January was the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Top 20 Best Selling SUVs In America October 2014

The Honda CR-V was Americas best-selling SUV in October 2014 as sales surged 30%, more than enough to fend off the Ford Escape in the Fords best-ever October. (October 2014 was a best-ever month for the CR-V, too.)

All 14 of Americas top 14 best-selling SUVs and crossovers in October 2014 sold more often last month than in the same period one year ago. The biggest increase, of course, belonged to the Jeep Cherokee, which wasnt here in time to put a full month under its belt last year. 

But there were massive gains from other sources, not the least of which was the CR-Vs, equal to 6703 extra sales. Toyota Highlander sales jumped 30%, as well. Toyota RAV4 sales rose 22%. The Chevrolet Traverse was up 24%. Year-over-year improvements posted by the Escape, Nissan Rogue, Jeep Wrangler, and Jeep Patriot all measured in the double digits.

Now ahead of the Escape by 15,191 units heading into the final two months of the year, the CR-V has all but locked up the title of Americas best-selling SUV for the third consecutive year. Now the CR-V is on to another race: in October, it was also the best-selling Honda.

The Toyota Camry ended 2014 atop the list of Americas best-selling cars for the 13th consecutive year, but December belonged to another car. In a record-setting year for the Nissan Altima, December marked a fitting finale: the Altima was Americas most popular car last month.

The Camry was not roughed up, however, as year-over-year volume climbed 5.5% to 31,618 units, just 713 fewer than the Altima managed. Toyotas key small car, the Corolla, ranked fourth overall and first among compacts, 4788 sales ahead of the Honda Civic.

Premium cars were represented by the BMW 3-Series and its 4-Series offshoot (formerly all part of the 3-Series family). 3-Series volume rose 16% to 19,464 units, enough to send the Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Sonata, and Chevrolet Cruze (among others) down a peg.

Top 20 Best Selling SUVs In America July 2014

The Ford Escape was not the first, nor was it the second-best-selling SUV or crossover in America in July 2014.

The traditional leader of the pack, Hondas CR-V, led the way with a 5% increase to 28,522 units in July. The CR-V now leads the Escape by 3766 units heading into August, a not insurmountable sum for the Escape to overcome, but a sum not typically overcome by the Escape.

But with a record-high sales month in July, the Toyota RAV4 grabbed the second spot. The margin was slim, at just 221 units, an almost statistically meaningless figure among vehicles that produce volume like these ones do. 

GMs recall crisis hasnt hampered the companys reported sales of the Chevrolet Equinox. With a 37% July jump, Equinox sales shot beyond 25,000 units for the first time since last August. The Equinox was joined by three other GM utility vehicles in the top 15. There were three Fords in the top 19; two Hondas in the top 12, and three Toyota products in the top 20.
