Top 20 Best Selling SUVs In America October 2014

2015 Honda CRV
The Honda CR-V was Americas best-selling SUV in October 2014 as sales surged 30%, more than enough to fend off the Ford Escape in the Fords best-ever October. (October 2014 was a best-ever month for the CR-V, too.)

All 14 of Americas top 14 best-selling SUVs and crossovers in October 2014 sold more often last month than in the same period one year ago. The biggest increase, of course, belonged to the Jeep Cherokee, which wasnt here in time to put a full month under its belt last year.

But there were massive gains from other sources, not the least of which was the CR-Vs, equal to 6703 extra sales. Toyota Highlander sales jumped 30%, as well. Toyota RAV4 sales rose 22%. The Chevrolet Traverse was up 24%. Year-over-year improvements posted by the Escape, Nissan Rogue, Jeep Wrangler, and Jeep Patriot all measured in the double digits.

Now ahead of the Escape by 15,191 units heading into the final two months of the year, the CR-V has all but locked up the title of Americas best-selling SUV for the third consecutive year. Now the CR-V is on to another race: in October, it was also the best-selling Honda.

Historical monthly and yearly sales figures for any of these best-selling SUVs and crossovers can always be accessed through the dropdown menu at GCBCs Sales Stats page, and for those not viewing the mobile version of this site, near the top right of this page, as well. GoodCarBadCar has already published the list of Americas best-selling trucks in October and will shortly publish the list of Americas 20 best-selling cars.

Small And Midsize Luxury SUV Sales In Canada October 2014 YTD

2013 Infiniti JX35
Remove a trio of new rivals from the Audi Q5s segment and sales of the continuing nameplates still increased in Canada in October 2014, though not at the rate of the overall market.

Non-Macan/MKC/X4 sales were up 1.6% in October 2014 despite the fact that these new utility vehicles – plus the smaller Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA - were attempting to steal sales.

They undoubtedly did, but the market for these vehicles is expanding at such a rate that slowdowns were felt by very few of the established small luxury crossover nameplates. The Acura RDX, Audi Q5, BMW X3, Infiniti QX50, and Land Rover LR2 all posted improved Canadian sales both in October and during the first ten months of 2014.

The Q5, even with 345 buyers heading the Q3s way, still rose 4% to 772 units. Year-to-date, no premium brand SUV/crossover has sold as often as the Q5, though Lexuss RX comes close. Well see soon if increased RX pricing and the NX, yet to arrive, sitting below it will harm RX volume.

You can click any model name in the tables below to find historical monthly and yearly Canadian auto sales data. You can also select a make and model at GCBCs Sales Stats page. These tables are now sortable, so you can rank luxury SUVs and crossovers any which way you like. Suggestions on how GCBC should break down segments can be passed on through the Contact page.

GCBC isnt here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better. This explains youll see the XC70 listed with luxury cars as well as with SUVs and crossovers and the Touareg with luxury SUVs and mainstream SUVs... because readers have wanted it both ways. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts.

Midsize SUV Sales In America October 2014 YTD

An October 2014 boom in U.S. sales of the Chevrolet Traverse, Nissan Murano, Toyota 4Runner, and Toyota Highlander was counteracted to some degree by declines from the Dodge Durango, Ford Explorer, GMC Acadia, Honda Pilot, and Nissan Pathfinder.

The story of the Pilots steady decline has been long-running as Hondas biggest utility vehicle reaches old age in reliable, steady, but outdated form. 2014 was the second-generation Pilots sixth model year.

Sales have decreades, year-over-year in each of the last twelve months. In 2014, Pilot volume has decreased by more than 21,000 units through ten months while sales of the CR-V, Hondas smaller SUV that theyve refreshed for MY2015, have increased by nearly 19,000 units.

The Pilots continued success is a testament to its enduring reputation as a spacious, durable, 8-seater. 88,150 have been sold in 2014, a figure greater than the total achieved by any of the GM Lambda-platform crossovers (which have collectively sold more than 200,000 copies), the Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento, and Nissans much fresher Pathfinder.

Three-row vehicles were led in October 2014 by the traditional leader, Fords Explorer. Sales jumped 8% in October; 9% year-to-date.

You can click any model name in the tables below to find historical monthly and yearly U.S. auto sales data. You can also select a make and model at GCBCs Sales Stats page. These tables are now sortable, so you can rank midsize SUVs and crossovers any which way you like. Suggestions on how GCBC should break down segments can be passed on through the Contact page.
