Dodge Dart Revealed Ahead Of 2012 Detroit Auto Show Debut

The Dodge Dart has finally been revealed thanks to an early leak, with the stylish compact sedan set to debut officially in front of audiences on Monday at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show.

Revealed here in aggressive R/T guise and Limited Trim (the red model), the dart appears attractive and well-balanced to our eyes, looking almost like the Dodge Neon never Stopped being developed. That might sound like a slam to some readers, but the Neon was a quick and entertaining small car in its heyday, with buoyant looks and attitude to spare. At a glance, the Dart appears to capture some of that energy but add in heaping helping of much-needed refinement.

Dodge says its keeping the Dart lean by using advanced materials sourced from the Alfa Romeo DNA in its design. Sixty-eight percent of the body structure is made of high-strength steel, which can be thinner and lighter than standard steel. All of this forms the Compact U.S. Wide (CUS-Wide), which will form the basis of several other models to come from the Fiat-Chrysler empire.

Four-cylinder engine choises include a 160-horse power Tigershark 2.0-liter, a 160-hp turbo charged 1.4-liter multiair and a 148-hp Tigerhark 2.4-liter. Six-speed manual, six-speed automatic and six-speed dual dry-clutch (DDCT) transmissions are available.

Dodge Viper Rolls Off the Production Line

This final example of the 2010 Dodge Viper is a customized coupe model for DAnn Rauh (second from right in the picture), who along with her husband Wayne from Arp, Texas, own more than 40 Dodge Vipers. The Texas couple own the largest personal collection of Vipers in the world.

Rauhs Viper is finished in a custom bronzed gold exterior paint supplied by House of Kolor, while unique interior features include various leather appointments crafted by Tony Spampinito from Venzano. The dark graphite five-spoke forged-aluminum wheels complete the package.

Production of the V10-powered Dodge Viper started in 1992. A next generation model has been rumored but not officially confirmed.

 That $40,000 buys a 470-hp 6.4-liter Hemi V-8-powered car with a five-speed automatic transmission.

More than just a whimsical name, the Super Bee is fully themed, inside and out. It comes in black or yellow with a Super Bee graphics package and unique logos. Inside, it gets cloth seats with a yellow-and-black Z stripe, headrest logos and dashboard plaque.

While the car packs plenty, its $8,000 drop from the standard SRT8 means it misses out on some of the standard equipment therein. Things like navigation system, leather upholstery, twelve-way memory drivers seat and active exhaust are cut in favor of the lower price.

2013 Dodge Viper SRT Car Model And Review

The Viper has been absent from Dodge’s lineup since 2010, but the big story at the 2012 New York Auto show is the announcement of the 2013 Dodge Viper. Dodge is reintroducing an all new Viper for 2013 that will be available in two models, SRT Viper and SRT Viper GTS.

Both SRT Viper and SRT Viper GTS models offer new interior and exterior designs incorporating premium materials and new exterior surfaces with aerodynamically functional details that are beautifully integrated into the high-tech carbon fiber and aluminum skin. On the inside, designers and engineers strived to rethink all touch points; and upgrade all material appointments and technologies.

The 2013 Dodge Viper SRT Viper GTS builds on the DNA of the SRT Viper model with more technologically advanced solutions, like two-mode active suspension, to allow this world-class GTS to find new limits on the track while also opening up its envelope as a more premium and mature evolution of the classic, extreme performance formula. Designed and built with premium features and materials inside and out, the Viper GTS will compete with the best performance vehicles in the world with a wide range of creature comforts, advanced drivetrain and interior technologies.

At the heart and soul of the 2013 SRT Viper is the venerable, hand-assembled 8.4-liter all-aluminum, V-10 overhead-valve engine.

Improvements for 2013 include a new, ultra-high flow and lightweight composite intake manifold, high-strength forged pistons, sodium-filled exhaust valves, new catalysts to reduce back pressure and an aluminum flywheel that reduces reciprocating losses. More than 25 pounds has been shaved from the fully dressed engine.

Preliminary performance ratings for the SRT-engineered V-10 Viper are 640 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque – the most torque of any naturally aspirated engine in the world.

The Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission has been improved with a shorter throw shifter, closer gear ratios and a final drive ratio that has been shortened to 3.55 from 3.07. The 2013 Viper models will be more engaging to drive and top speed is now achieved through 6th gear with maximum engine speed (redline) at 6,200 rpm.

Four-piston Brembo brakes with fixed-aluminum calipers, and vented rotors with a diameter of 355 mm by 32 mm, are used at all four corners. Brake calipers are forged and weight optimized by fully machining all surfaces. The calipers are among the stiffest available with distortion from heat nearly eliminated even under the most demanding braking conditions.
